One third-year undergraduate has decided against returning to hall this semester, owing to the higher fees. The monthly fee for her single-occupant air-conditioned room has increased to $642 this academic year (AY2026/2027) from $593 in the previous academic year (AY2025/2026). “Even if I get a [cab] to and from school for all three days [a week] I have my classes scheduled on, it’s still slightly cheaper than living in my old room.”

In less than a week, undergraduate students from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) will begin a new academic year. Those opting to stay on campus at the university-operated student accommodation, however, will pay 8% more than they did last year, as room prices have risen at all of NTU’s 23 undergraduate residential halls.
